Overview of the basic theoretical principles and methods used by geographers in their scientific and professional work; relations between theoretical background and selection of methods. Foundations of geographical approach. Research questions, hypotheses, research design. Overview of basic quantitative and qualitative methods in scientific and technical work of a geographer. Fundamentals of observation, data collection (including interviews, field methods, data sources and data acquisition from various institutions). Basics of data presentation - tables, graphs, maps. Fundamentals of statistical methods: data editing, relative numbers, measures of central tendency, measures of dispersion, normal distribution, confidence intervals, testing statistical hypotheses, sampling, statistical correlation, analysis of variance, linear regression analysis, time series. The basics of computer technology: entry, storage, editing, data analysis and display charts.
