English Verb II

Complex English verb structures: conditionality, mood and modality, passive/active voice (form and function), non-finites (infinitive, participle, gerund), reported speech (form and function, grammatical generalisations, narrativisation). Syntactic accounts of studied structures. A detailed analysis of studied structures in authentic texts. English/Slovene contrastive analysis. Tutorial work focusses on practical student work, in particular, translation, in-depth analysis, English-Slovene contrastive analysis, discourse analysis, critical synthesis and analysis. Special attention is paid to the formation of the verb phrases in question and their practical use, discourse analysis, register variation and contrastive differences between English and Slovene.
