Research
The Department of Geography at the Faculty of Arts ensures the development of science and the profession through organized research work within the Research Center. Basic research is carried out within the program Sustainable Regional Development of Slovenia, which in 2021 includes 14 researchers. In addition to program funding, the researchers of the Department are actively involved in various national projects and international research (ERASMUS + program, HORIZON 2020, Interreg, etc.) and add to their knowledge and experience through international study visits (in recent years we have conducted nine extended research stays) and exchanges.
Efforts for the continuing development and relevance of the profession are bolstered by the ongoing transfer of the latest results and findings into the study process and implementation at all possible levels. We thus cooperate in projects and different expert groups and consultations with a number of governmental departments (Ministry of the Environment and Spatial Planning (MOP), Ministry of Economic Development and Technology (MGRT), Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Food (MGKP), Ministry of Defense (MO), Ministry of Infrastructure (MI) - since 2010 we have led or participated in as many as nine projects of the Target Research Program). We carry out project tasks for users (line ministries, Slovenian municipalities, various institutions and companies), in which the high applied value and innovation of geography is demonstrated (list of FF UL projects).
We also encourage students to do research when we prepare project content for applications to the Creative Path to Knowledge (PKP) program, which links higher education institutions with the business and public sectors and provides students with opportunities to gain experience, additional knowledge and skills that are increasingly important on the labor market.
