The course starts by presenting Nietzsche's philosophy in the context of modern European philosophy, continuing with an analysis of Nietzsche's philosophy and of its role in the formation of various philosophical schools, movements and literary trends at the turn of the century and later. The treatment of Nietzsche's influence on Slovene literature proceeds historically: an analysis of the philosopher's first echoes in Slovenia is followed by a discussion of his significance in Slovene fin-de-siecle literature, especially in Cankar and Župančič. The lectures on the interbellum period focus on Kosovel, Podbevšek, Vidmar and Bartol: the literary texts and essays revealing Nietzsche's influence are directly compared to his own thought, i.e. to those of his formulations which reverberate in the Slovene writers' works. Particular emphasis is laid on Nietzsche's place in Slovene philosophy, as well as in the debates on Post-fin-de-siecle and Postmodernism.
