Translation Seminar I (ENG-SLO): Translation of Specialized and Scientific Texts

Students are familiarised with the practical use of translation techniques in the field of translation of specialized and scientific texts. Students are familiarised with various specialised and scientific genres and different approaches to translation of these genres. They gain knowledge of adequate terminology
sources of terminology (dictionaries, lexicons, manuals, parallel corpora) and institutions or individual experts. In the context of translating specialized and scientific texts, the focus is on discourse analysis, on the specific characteristics of various genres in English and Slovene and on terminological work. Students are encouraged to critically evaluate possible translation solutions in terms of the function and purpose of the translated text.
