The course focuses on the theory and practice of the 19th century English novel both from the perspective of its immediate social and cultural environments as well as its intercultural contexts. Based on their preliminary reading of the selected novels, the students are guided through the analysis of various textual and narrative segments of the works. In the course of the year, a range of narrative techniques, as well as the different aspects of the texts’ placement within their historical, cultural and social environment are introduced. Special attention is paid to the specifics of the 19th century English novels reception from the perspective of their intercultural impact.
