Asst. Prof. Dr. Katharina Zanier

Katharina Zanier was born in Meran in South Tyrol (Italy). She graduated in Archaeology at the Faculty of Arts at the University of Trieste, where she also accomplished the Specialization School in Archaeology, and received her Ph.D. at the University of Udine. Her basic research interest is focused on Roman architecture, building techniques and architectural furnishings (mosaics, wall paintings, architectural decoration). She also researches topics related to Roman sculpture, especially in the study of iconography and stylistic characteristics of Aquileian products, and Roman topography of the eastern part of the Regio X. She participated in international research projects and excavations in Italy and Slovenia. In 2006–2018 she was employed at the University of Primorska in Koper. In the years 2014–2019 she worked at the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Heritage of Slovenia. Since 2017 she is a member of the editorial board of the Journal for the Protection of Monuments and of the Series AAS (Archaeology on Slovenian Highways). At the Department of Archaeology at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Ljubljana, she teaches classical archaeology from 2019.
