Teaching practice enables the student:
• to match theoretically gained knowledge of geography and other subjects areas, psychological, pedagogical and special didactic knowledge with practical experiences in order to learn about the requirements of her or his future profession; with suitable support of the mentors she or he tests his or her knowledge in practice; and with the help of immediate feedback develops professional competences;
• personal development of professional competences which include theoretical knowledge, professional skills (e.g., explanation at a suitable level, class management, communication …) and suitable standpoints and values (e.g., positive attitude towards learners and other participants in the learning process, the belief that learners can learn and fundamental trust in their abilities, respecting different learners …);
• awareness of basic professional values of a teacher and development of suitable professional and ethical values where those values are reflected in a way that a teacher represents a good example to the learners;
• personal experience-based judgement with supervised practicum if her or his abilities, personal characteristics and interests are in accordance with professional demands and hence ensure success in the geography teacher profession.
